Biographical material includes marriage records and family information. Addresses include speeches as president of Colgate Palmolive, his 1953 Commencement address at Davidson College, an introduction of Mr. William Sims, II, at the American Newcomen Society in 1956, and comments from the dedication of Davidson's E.H. Little Library. Correspondence includes letters from Dale Carnegie;but, chiefly concerns Colgate-Palmolive and Davidson College. Bulk of the collection is printed material on Colgate-Palmolive, Little's contributions to various organizations, contact with Davidson, and social and political activities, including files on the inauguration of Eisenhower, 1953. Two scrapbooks from the College record the dedication of the E.H. Little Library and letters by students thanking Mr. Little for his contributions. The oversize material is an August, 1981 newspaper article. Illustrations include photographs from the College celebration of his 100th birthday, sketch of the Crippled Children's Hospital in Memphis, maps of Mr. Little's land near Huntersville, photographs of Mr. Little, his family, business associates and Davidson College. Mr. Little was born near Huntersville, NC, in Mecklenburg Co. In 1902 he began work for Colgate and Co. and became a district manager in Memphis, TN. In 1914, Mr. Little became a salesman for the B.J. Johnson Soap Co., which later became the Palmolive Company. After Palmolive merged with Colgate, Mr. Little was in charge of foreign sales.
